Automatic Identification System
The universal shipborne Automatic Identification System (AIS) is improving the safety of navigation by assisting in the efficient navigation of ships, protection of the environment, and operation of Vessel Traffic Services (VTS). The AIS is a VHF transceiver that exchanges identification and voyage information with other AIS-equipped ships and shore-based facilities.
